We are going to bust the popular myths and provide solutions to such controversial problems as white walls, light-colored surfaces and more.
1. Wallpaper
Wallpaper is often said not to be a practical material. It is believed to absorb odors, deteriorate easily and be difficult to clean.
In fact, the wallpaper fits in any type of room. For damp rooms, choose vinyl wallpaper: it has a high density and can be washed. And for areas with high humidity, glass wallpaper is suitable, but also paper versions polished with varnish.
Be careful to avoid places in the immediate vicinity of the bathroom, sink and shower.
2. Fitted carpet
The carpet raises many questions due to its potential to accumulate dust and dirt.
Such a kind of floor is more difficult to clean than tiles, for example. But it’s much warmer. In addition, the dense wire soaks the dust and impedes its circulation in the air.
To maintain the carpet, you need to clean it regularly and avoid using it in places with a lot of dirt, for example, in the hallway and the kitchen.
3. White paint
The use of white paint in interior decoration is associated with another widespread myth.
In fact, white painted surfaces are much more practical than those painted in other shades. Dust and some stains are hard to notice on white, but instead are very noticeable on bright colors, which accentuate any trace of dirt.
White color visually evens out the surface, hiding its imperfections. To make it easier to care for white walls, choose high-quality washable paint. Cleaning a white kitchen set takes as much time as any other. White facades or countertops perfectly hide drops and stains.
4. Glossy surfaces in light colors
Contrary to popular belief that glossy items are difficult to keep clean, they take little time to clean. On light surfaces, dust, fingerprints, dirt and water drops are not visible. Thus, the furniture looks neater.
The main enemy of gloss is stains. But you can quickly get rid of them by wiping the surface with a microfiber cloth.
5. Small tiles on the floor
It is generally accepted that small tiles on the floor are impractical, as they require more frequent cleaning and can’t hide the uneven surface.
In fact, due to the small, often repeated pattern, many imperfections and dirt are hidden. And the stains of color make the dirt go unnoticed.
If you are worried that the joints between the tiles will get dirty, opt for dark putty.
